A KIWI BIRD HAS NO WINGS!
A KIWI BIRD HAS NO WINGS!
Have you ever seen a bird without wings? It sounds strange, but there is one kind of bird that doesn’t need wings to fly: the kiwi bird. Kiwi birds are native to New Zealand, and they are unique compared to other birds. Instead of wings, kiwi birds have feathers that look more like fur. They have long, thin legs, a long beak and a powerful sense of smell. Kiwi birds can’t fly, but they have other ways to get around. They are great runners and climbers, and they can even swim.
Kiwi birds have other unique features, too. They lay the largest eggs compared to their body size of any bird in the world. The eggs are so big that some kiwi birds can’t even stand up after they lay them! Kiwi birds are also nocturnal, meaning they are active at night and sleep during the day. That’s how they stay safe from predators, like cats, dogs, and even humans.
Kiwi birds are amazing creatures, and they don’t need wings to make a big impact. They are a symbol of New Zealand and an important part of the country’s ecosystem. Next time you see a kiwi bird, remember that it’s one of a kind!
