A HORSE CANNOT VOMIT

Have you ever heard of something called “reverse peristalsis”? It’s an incredible phenomenon that happens in many animals, including horses, and it’s the reason why horses can’t vomit. Reverse peristalsis is a process in which the muscles of the esophagus, or the tube that connects the throat to the stomach, contract in the opposite direction to what’s normal. This prevents food from coming back up from the stomach and into the throat.

Horses are one of the few animals that have evolved to have this type of reverse peristalsis. While it might sound like a bad thing, it’s actually a great adaptation that’s served horses well over the years. It helps horses keep their food down, even when they’re running, jumping, or doing other activities.

So, while it’s true that horses can’t vomit like humans and other animals, it’s actually a good thing. Horses have evolved to be able to keep their food down, even when they’re in motion, and that helps keep them healthy and happy.
